This winter there were 80 middle and high school students taking part in district, senior and All-State Festivals, and the AHS Honors Orchestra performed for the community and was selected to demonstrate music excellence at the Massachusetts Music Educators’ All-State Conference.

Arlington middle and high school students earned first, second, and third place and honorable mention awards in group and individual website, group and individual exhibit, paper, group documentary, and individual and group performance.

EL Education information session was recorded for those community members who were not able to attend.

Arlington High School teacher Adam Gooder has been chosen to be part of a small group of educators working on art projects with students in Kargong, The Gambia, and learning more about the local arts community and culture.

After completing a survey from the American Association of School Librarians, Library Teacher Laura Atlee was asked to participate in a focus group and explore ways that the current standards could be more practical.

OMS students circulated through ten stations, each manned by volunteer hosts who shared information, answered questions about their heritage countries, and engaged the attendees in activities.

Elementary students involved in the slow roll-out of EL Education are combining reading, writing, speaking and listening with meaningful, hands-on projects that connect classroom experiences to the world outside, leading to the development of skills they will need throughout their lives.

Members of the community heard from a panel that included teachers at the elementary and high school level, the Director of Wellness, and an AHS junior as they explored the meaning of “inclusive” and how this is being addressed in Arlington schools.

Ivy the French bulldog demonstrated how she is able to get around despite her physical disability during the school visits where her human mom shared her story and stressed the importance of resilience and determination.

The recent funding provided by AEF will bring enhancements to the educational experience, support and update curricula, and promote diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
