The Sponsors of Mass Save selected this group of Climate Leaders based on a variety of factors including the total energy savings achieved over the past few years, the historical level of energy savings relative to energy consumption, and the frequency and diversity of energy efficiency investments.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Elizabeth C. Homan stated, “We are thrilled that our efforts to reduce our energy consumption have been recognized by the Sponsors of Mass Save. The projects that earned this award provide comfortable and appropriate learning environments for our students and staff, while ensuring long-term efficiencies for our community. These projects also support the Town of Arlington’s goal of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.”
APS has leveraged the financial and technical support provided by the Sponsors of Mass Save to make meaningful investments in energy efficiency and curb greenhouse gas emissions. Specific projects include:
- Renovation of Gibbs Middle (Grade 6) School, a 69,000 square foot building, resulting in an impressive 21% overall energy savings
- Achievement of an outstanding 45.6% energy consumption reduction through the construction of Arlington High School, bolstered by the successful adoption of complete electrification
